We discovered a unique object that is considered a crucial “missing link” between galaxies and the supermassive black holes about 750 million years just after the Big Bang.

I contributed in many ways as a lead author, but I believe we have made it this far, starting with Gabe’s outstanding skills in analyzing the entire HST archive, accelerated by the great teamwork of DAWN, and strengthened by the prompt theoretical support from our friendly Italian colleagues.

I rediscovered the fascination of observation, where unexpected things are found by chance, and the thrill of research that is created by joining forces.

The Growth of Galaxies in the Early Universe – VII: Shaping the JWST Strategy
I2I: Linking Galaxy Physics from ISM to IGM Scales
held in Sesto (Italy) on 14-18th and 21-25th March 2022.
These were the first face-to-face conferences for most of the participants after 2 years of the covid pandemic.
We all know how difficult to make it possible and would like to thank the organizers.

Inoue Research Award for Young Scientists https://sf-seiji.com/inoue-research-award-for-young-scientists/770/ https://sf-seiji.com/inoue-research-award-for-young-scientists/770/#respond Fri, 04 Feb 2022 03:00:01 +0000 https://sf-seiji.com/?p=770 I’m very honored to receive the Inoue Research Award for Young Scientists.
I’m truly thankful not only to the people who have been directly involved so far but also to the forerunners who have provided an environment where even students can have access to the observation data obtained with the most advanced telescopes such as ALMA. While continuing to enjoy cutting-edge research using ALMA, I would like to contribute to the development of the field of astrophysics and astronomy at large so that I can continue to carry on the baton that has been given to me.

Nasa’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Cycle1 programs have been selected.

I’m thrilled to have been awarded the JWST time on 1 (PI/leading) and 2 (co-I/collaborating) Cycle1 proposals.
The telescope is scheduled to launch to space later this year. I cannot wait to see what JWST brings to us!

We discover a remarkably bright, strong and multiply lensed star-forming galaxy at z=6.07, which provides us with an unprecedented view from stellar to cold interstellar medium in an early galaxy for the first time.

The left panel shows a Hubble Space Telescope color image of a massive galaxy cluster which causes a strong gravitational lensing effect and magnifies faint emission from galaxies behind. The multiply imaged galaxy, RXCJ0600-z6, is marked with the yellow squares. ALMA detects bright [CII] 158um emission line from these multiple images, shown in red contours and spectra in the middle and right panels, respectively.

We identify 30% of isolated ALPINE sources as having an extended [C II] component over 10 kpc scales detected at 4.1σ-10.9σ beyond the size of rest-frame UV and FIR continuum, which is likely explained by star-formation driven outflow.

New Paper Published by ApJ https://sf-seiji.com/our-new-paper-published-in-apj-6/668/ https://sf-seiji.com/our-new-paper-published-in-apj-6/668/#respond Sat, 29 Feb 2020 15:00:50 +0000 https://sf-seiji.com/?p=668 Our paper is newly published from ApJ as Fujimoto et al. 2020a, ApJ, 891, 64 (ADS).
We present morphological properties in the high-resolution (FWHM ∼ 0″15) ALMA 1 mm map for an ultraluminous quasar at z = 6.30, SDSS J0100+2802, whose black hole (BH) mass MBH is the most massive (∼1.2 × 10^10Msun) at z > 6 ever known. We find that the 1-mm continuum emission of J0100+2802 is resolved into a quadruple system within a radius of 0″2, which can be interpreted as either multiple dusty star-forming regions in the host galaxy or multiple images due to strong gravitational lensing. Although a high-resolution map taken with HST shows a morphology with an apparently single component, in our fiducial lens mass model it can simply be explained by a ∼50 pc scale offset between the ALMA and HST emission regions.
